Certification for professional bookkeepers. Seattle Community College’s Continuing Education Program, in collaboration with the American Institue of Professional Bookkeepers, offers an ten-week, 19-session program (approx. 70 contact hours), preparing you to become a Certified Bookkeeper. The certification is conferred by the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers.
Enrollees must have two years of on-the-job bookkeeping or one year of college accounting to take this program.
This course focuses on preparing for the national Certified Bookkeeper examination by helping you truly master the skills and knowledge required for certification, which are as follows:
- Adjusting entries (accrual and defferals)
- Correction of accounting errors (includes bank reconciliation)
- Basic book and tax depreciation
- Basic payroll
- Recording and costing out merchandise inventory
- Internal Controls and fraud prevention
Students take three tests (2 hours each) covering the six areas above. Successful candidates who pass all three tests are entitled to put “CB” after their name.
